The color photo shows a venus flytrap leaf that has opened after digesting a fly. To the bottom right of the waste material you can see one of the trigger hairs. There are six to eight of these hairs in each leaf. An insect needs to trigger one of the hairs twice in a short period or two different hairs almost simultaneously to get the leaf to shut. It then takes approximately a week to digest an insect.
