11/10 - New England Prep School Tournament
Exeter takes 3rd place
Using the momentum and confidence they gained at Exeter-Andover day, the varsity girls ended their season with a fantastic performance at the tournament. Opening against Andover, they took a while to warm up, extending the first game to 16-14. They controlled the second game, winning it 15-10. The next game was against last seed, Kingswood-Oxford. PEA served hard and won easily, 15-0 and 15-1.
The real excitement of the day was in the game against Northfield Mt. Hermon. We played determined and intense volleyball, only to lose the first game 6-15. Despite having lost the chance to be in the tournament finals, the girls pushed themselves to their limits in the second game. PEA had not taken a game from NMH in two years, but that streak was broken, as we won by a score of 18-16 in a nail-biting thriller. Most points were long rallies, with consistent hitting, blocking, and digging on both sides. Neither team was willing to let a ball land. This game was definitely the high point of our season.
While NMH was disposing of St. Pauls to win the league title, PEA defeated Deerfield in the consolation match.
Captain Rina Borromeo was selected as a league all-star.

Final Regular Season Record 5 - 6

11/9 - PEA 3 Andover 0
To cap off the regular season, the Exeter girls soundly defeated rival Andover in front of hundreds of fans at Andover. The first game was the closest, ending at 16-14 on an Emi Lizama spike down the line. Rina Borromeo's defense and Emi Lizama's serving and hitting were pivotal in Exeter's win. In the third game, with Exeter leading 14-4, Captain Rina stepped back to serve, kissed the ball, and fired an ace at the Andover back row. This was a big win as a precursor to the tournament.

10/30 - PEA 0 Cushing 3
This was another disappointing loss for the girls. We lost an early lead in the first game, unable to complete our serves. After losing that game 13 - 15, the team could not regain its composure. Serving and serve receive were poor. Emi Lizama played well, covering a lot of territory defensively. The team will have to work very hard to prepare for Andover and the tournament next week.

10/23 - PEA 0 St. Pauls 3
The St. Pauls team played consistently and served well to defeat PEA for the second time. PEA looked rusty and unmotivated, following two days without practice. Yvonne Ko returned to the team following her injury and served well. Without another game this week, the team will use the time to shuffle the lineup in order to generate more offensive power.

10/19 - PEA 3 Deerfield 2
Before a parents' weekend crowd, the varsity squad defeated a tall Deerfield team. It was an up and down match for PEA, losing the first and third games badly, unable to return the Deerfield serve. We won the second, fourth, and fifth games decisively. Captain Rina Borromeo ran an eleven point serving streak to win the fourth game.

10/16 - PEA 3 Andover 1
After getting blown away in the first game, the girls gathered themselves and took the next three games. It was the first comeback win for this team, an important milestone. Emi Lizama continued her strong and consistent hitting. Jenny Vavra and Rina Borromeo both made several fantastic defensive reaction plays. Serving was erratic, but a few players were able to put together long streaks.

10/12 - PEA 0 NMH 3
Despite strong efforts and consistent play, PEA dropped its second match against Northfield Mount Hermon. Emi Lizama had her best performance to date, hitting from the left side. Caille Taylor stuff blocked a team record 8 balls, leading the way to another team record blocking day. The loss was encouraging, in the manner in which the team played. We built a 13-12 lead in the first game, but couldn't quite put the powerful NMH team away.

10/9 - PEA 0 St. Pauls 3
In a sluggish effort, PEA was defeated by a consistent St. Pauls team. The squad lacked the intensity and organization it brought to its previous matches. Too many unforced errors cost PEA the game. Susan Kim got her first significant playing time, in the absence of Captain Rina Borromeo. Her serve receive was excellent and her enthusiasm was exemplary.

10/5 - PEA 1 Chelmsford 3
After winning a close first game, the team lost some intensity and allowed the tough Chelmsford squad to come back. Exeter had its best blocking day ever, recording 8 stuffs and no errors. Jenny Vavra had 3 of those stuff blocks and a great serving game. Nicole Moss had her personal best, including 4 kills and no errors in the middle hitting position. Captain Rina Borromeo helped with tough serving and hustling defense.

9/28 - PEA 3 Loomis Chaffee 0
The Lady Griffins got off to an early lead in the first game, before letting Loomis back into the game on a ten point run. After regaining their composure, PEA won the game by a score of 16 - 14. The other games were also close. Our floor defense was excellent, as was our serve receive. Emi Lizama had a great day serving, and Captain Rina Borromeo was an all around force.

9/21 - PEA 0 Northfield Mt. Hermon 3
In the first home match of the season, the girl lost to an impressive NMH squad. NMH had nearly all of their players return from last year's championship team. Exeter had a terrific start, hustling their way to an 11-10 lead in the first game, but the experienced NMH players took control and won it by a score of 15-11. Despite the 0-3 score of the match, Coaches Saltman and Wolfson were pleased with the way the team played. As PEA improves throughout the season, we can expect some excellent volleyball.

9/18 - PEA 3 Cushing Academy 2
The team got off to a 1-0 start with a victory over an improved Cushing team. Consistent serving (NO missed serves in the first and fifth games!) and tough floor defense helped in the win. Setters Jenny Vavra and Lisa Belden played well in their first game at Exeter.
